Byroads Travel is a small specialist tour company based in Australia. With over 30 years’ experience in the travel industry we use our extensive knowledge and many contacts in the world of travel to each year carefully craft a limited number of tours to some of the world’s most fascinating destinations.
…. and it’s the way we do things that sets us apart from most other operators.
Inspiring Journeys & Diversions
A ‘byroad’ is a road less travelled and this encapsulates the spirit of our tours. You can expect to see all the highlights of the region you have chosen to explore, but we also include interesting diversions to really special places we’ve discovered, over many years of travel to these wonderful regions.
Your in Good Hands
With Byroads you can be sure to be well looked after. Each of our trips will have its own Byroads Tour Facilitator who is with you to make sure that every aspect of your holiday is taken care of. In addition we have the services of a Tour Guide throughout. They are a local and have been carefully chosen by us because of their extensive experience guiding in their native homeland while at some of the major sites we are joined by specialist guides to ensure that you get a really in-depth understanding of the places we visit.
Our groups are limited to just 16 participants. That’s large enough to provide some diversity but small enough to feel you are on holiday with a group of friends. Importantly, by strictly limiting numbers we have access to small boutique hotels, many of which only have 10-15 rooms.
The hotels we use are an important element of each tour and wherever possible we select small establishments that reflect the character of the region we are visiting. Historic Ottoman mansions, fabulous Moroccan riads, felt ‘ghers’ in Mongolia, pensions and traditional old homes are just some of the places we stay in on our trips. These can be anything three-star to five-star, but the star rating is not really that important. What matters to us is the atmosphere, service and staff – some of whom are old friends that look forward to our next visit. If we can’t find a place with atmosphere we stay somewhere clean and comfortable, close to the major sights. In each brochure we provide details of the accommodation we have selected for your tour.
There is nothing worse than being cramped and uncomfortable on your holiday. It’s one of the biggest complaints with many tour operators. At Byroads our vehicles are carefully chosen to ensure that there’s plenty of room to travel in comfort and we won’t overload our vehicles.
A Careful Balance
An important feature of our tours is the balance of sightseeing and free time. As far as possible we try to avoid early starts and long days and we don’t cram too much into each day. Our sightseeing is carefully selected and you’ll find there is sufficient free time for you to explore on your own and ‘smell the roses’.
Part of the fun of travel is trying out the local food. Breakfast is included each day at our hotels whilst for most other meals our guides are on-hand to recommend the best local restaurants and local delicacies of the region.
