Egypt has held the imagination of travellers for millennia with its ancient civilization and stunning monuments. On this all encompassing Egypt tour you will explore all the major highlights of this ancient land.
This special Byroads tour of Egypt brings to life the temples and monuments of the ancient Egyptian dynasties. It also explores the more modern spectacles of the Suez Canal and the enormous Aswan High Dam. A highlight is our trip to the WWII El Alamein War Cemetery where we pay our respects to the fallen.
Our tour commences in the huge metropolis of Cairo. It’s home to the Great Pyramids at Giza and the enigmatic Sphinx that has watched over the plateau for millennia. In the Cairo Museum we gaze upon the priceless treasures of the ancient pharaohs. Later we explore the winding alleys of the Khan al-Khalili Bazaar and Islamic Cairo.
A comfortable overnight sleeper train follows the Nile southward bringing us to Luxor. We explore the Karnak Temple and the amazing tombs in the Valley of the Kings including Tutankhamun’s tomb. We then set sail on our beautiful Nile cruiser for Aswan. En route we disembark to visit the great temples of Edfu and Komombo.
Here in Aswan is the Philae Temple, the High Dam and time to enjoy a sunset Felucca sail. Flying to Abu Simbel we visit the great Nubian Temples before returning to Aswan to spend the night in a wonderful Nubian style hotel in a small village on the west bank of the Nile.
A flight brings us back to Cairo where our bus brings us to Ismailia. Stare in amazement as giant ships appear to traverse the desert as they sail the Suez Canal. On the Mediterranean coast the city of Alexandria with its stunning Library, ancient catacombs and old fort awaits us. Before our tour of Egypt ends back in Cairo we visit El Alamein and Rosetta and discover the rich farm lands of the Nile Delta.
