The Mexico of today is a wonderful blend of ancient pre-Colombian cultures coupled with more recent Spanish traditions. On this well-paced Mexico tour we discover the heart and soul of this huge nation.

Encounter colonial cities adorned with great churches and spectacular archaeological sites with their enormous pyramids. On our Byroads Mexico tour you will be introduced to the indigenous culture with its lively music and arts scene and a sophisticated cuisine. Gaze upon the country’s stunning natural beauty from the dry deserts to deep forested jungles and palm lined beaches.

In Mexico City we tour the colonial sites of the capital and discover the nearby giant pyramids at Teotihuacan. We visit the museum dedicated to the artist Frida Kahlo and take a boat ride through the narrow canals at Xochimilco. Taxco and Puebla are two of Mexico’s best preserved colonial towns and Oaxaca is well known for its handicrafts and ancient Zapotec site. Flying to Tuxtla we cruise the impressive Sumidero Canyon and continue to San Cristobal de las Casas. Here we enjoy the rich indigenous culture of the city and nearby villages.

Next are the great Mayan sites of Palenque and Uxmal are to be explored.  After a visit to Campeche and Merida we explore famous Chichen Itza. Finally we arrive at the stunning beaches at Playa del Carmen where, having seen the Mayan cliff top ruins at Tulum our  Mexico tour comes to an end.
